How we work

At SAGE, our therapists are experienced, accredited members of the Irish Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (IACP) and abide by the IACP code of ethics and best practice.  We are educated to Masters Degree Level (9) - Susan and Judy have an MSc in Bereavement and Loss and Elma has an MA in Childhood and Adolescent Studies.  Every year we each commit to undergo a minimum of 5 days training to ensure that our skills and methods are consistent and concurrent with the latest research and the most effective methodologies.

Therapy at SAGE is based on the relationship between the therapist and the client.  Our therapists listen attentively and without judgement in order to help the client to come to awareness of what is going on and why.  The goal of the therapy is for our clients to attain contentment and peace.  This might require change by the client and at SAGE we provide support and guidance to facilitate that change.  Confidentiality is central to all therapeutic relationships and is discussed in detail at the first session.

The type of therapy most suited to the client is also discussed and agreed at the first session.  A decision is jointly taken on whether short-term, solution focussed therapy (CBT) is more appropriate or whether a longer term might be needed to understand the root cause of the presenting symptom (anxiety, depression, anger etc).

At SAGE we work with adolescents from age 12 and adults.  Sessions last for 50 minutes and are conducted on a one-to-one basis.  The fee per session is 70, payable at the end of each session.
